Review: Atonement by Ian McEwan
What else can I say about this novel, so highly regarded and vastly reviewed?
I will say what I liked about it:
1) There is a lot of Virginia Woolf in this novel, no doubt.
2) At the end, I felt this novel was a presentation of moral ambiguity. The type of novel you could actually argue with somebody about over a beer or a glass of wine. Different people will take sides with different characters. McEwan makes sure to just present the situation.
3) I haven't read an author in a while who can explore the psychology of his characters so well. Patrick Suskind comes to mind.
There is a small portion in the middle of the novel that turned me down some, and this is the only reason I don't give a five star to this very well written novel
